Bear Review is looking for a dedicated and talented poetry editor to join our team.

About Bear Review:
 
Founded in 2014, Bear Review is a non-profit online journal of poetry and art based out of Kansas City. We publish two issues a year and have an annual contest.
 

 

 
Job Description:
 
Bear Review’s poetry editors are responsible for overseeing the submission reading and selection process and ensuring the journal's success and impact within the wider literary community. Bear Review is a volunteer-run journal. This is an unpaid position, but the experience will be a wonderful addition to your CV.
 

 

 
Responsibilities:
 
+Can commit to working at least 8 hours a month
 
+Read and vote on submissions (both general and contest)
 
+Be in communication with co-editors, readers, and editor-in-chief
 
+Attend meetings online
 
+Be engaged with and interested in Bear Review’s online presence and relationship with the wider literary community
 

 

 
Skills/Qualifications
 
+Familiarity with and interest in contemporary poetry
 
+Previous experience as a poetry editor, reader, and/or other relevant experience working with a literary magazine preferred
 
+MFA or graduate degree in poetry, or relevant discipline, preferred
 
+Anti-racist and inclusive reading practices
 
+Familiarity with Bear Review’s aesthetic (have read current and previous issues)
 
+Enthusiasm and interest in helping Bear Review be its best
